Question:

How come there are so lots of macaque here?

Answer:

Well…in the beginning one group of the monkeys lived here and settled down but later another group from Walking Trail No.1 and No.3 immigrated here. We kept developing, so their habitation was decreasing. Finally they have to stay here for safety since there are no walking trails here. It is the conflict between people and monkeys.

Question:

Do they keep staying here without running away?

Answer:

Some monkeys originally stay here but some from another walking trail. They already get used to staying here. They will emigrate until the artificial interruption.

Question:

There is only a low fence surrounding them. Why don’t they cross it?

Answer:

Because we prohibit them from crossing the fence. If they jump down carelessly, we will push them back so that they get used to staying there.

Question:

How long can the monkey live?

Answer:

They can live about 15-20 years.

Question:

When is the adult age for them?

Answer:

Five or six years old could be an adult, and the female monkey can produce every year after that?

Question:

What do they eat?

Answer:

Potatoes are the main food because they produce throughout the year and they are easily bought. In addition, they eat several kinds of fruit according to the four seasons. For example, they eat oranges now in winter.

Question:

Are those kinds of fruit expensive? Doesn’t it cost too much?

Answer:

We all use the low-quality food. Some stores in Dakeng would sell us the unsold food so that we could buy it with the lower prize. It doesn’t cost a lot.

Question:

Is the monkey’s reproduction rate high? How many babies does a monkey produce in a year?

Answer:

Not many. A female monkey can only produce one baby in a year, and it can only produce ten monkeys the most in its life from the adult.

Question:

How many monkeys are there approximately?

Answer:

Lower than one hundred monkeys in the Macaque Park. But there are two hundred monkeys in Dakeng, including the walking trails.

Question:

Do the monkeys stay these places that I saw? Anywhere else?

Answer:

Not exactly. Because they are very active, so there are still other places, not restricted to stay in the forest.

Question:

Will other monkeys live here afterwards?

Answer:

Maybe not. This place has occupied by three groups of the monkeys. No others are dared to come here, or they will fight for the territory.

Question:

Eh, how come do you know there are three groups of the monkey?

Answer:

Because there are three kings of the monkeys. Each group has one king. It’s very easy to distinguish. The king of the monkeys would be bigger and looks awe-inspiring.

Question:

What if the food you supplied is not enough for these monkeys?

Answer:

At the moment you only see few monkeys that means the others must go somewhere in the mountains to look for the insects. There must be many insects in the forest, so they won’t feel hungry.

Question:

Why we just saw some monkeys throw the oranges away after taking a bite? Why?

Answer:

They would choose the fine one. Just like us, we would throw the rotten oranges away.

Question:

How big is the baby monkey at birth? Shouldn’t it have only one centimeter?

Answer:

Not so small. It has been trod to die for one centimeter, but it has only about five centimeters though.

Question:

Do you limit their activity areas?

Answer:

Their activity areas cannot be restricted, but they would stay in the certain ones. I am not restricted anyway.

Question:

Is the monkey’s face the redder the fiercer? How about the redder bottom?

Answer:

Why do you consider that the monkey’s personality is judged by its bottom? Of course not. The younger monkey would be fiercer. The monkey’s bottom is red because there is no fur on it. The blood vessels can be seen in its naked areas. Usually, the vessels are light pink. When the female monkey is in mating session, its vessels would spread and most blood flow here. Hence, the vessels appear bright, glistering red and even swelling. This is a kind of “announcement”; that is, to tell other adult male monkeys she is ready to get pregnant and attract them to mate with her.

Question:

Among the monkeys, how can be the king of the monkeys?

Answer:

By “fighting.” It is the animal nature. The winner can be the king. The other animals also do this way, not just monkeys.

Question:

Can you distinguish them?

Answer:

Of course. If I can’t, then I can’t manage them.

Question:

Why do you let them use the mirrors?

Answer:

Well. It’s just let them know what the mirror is and look themselves in the mirrors. You must be curious how they understood. It’s very simple because they are as smart as the human.

Question:

Aren’t you afraid they break the mirrors? It is not good that they get hurt by cutting.

Answer:

In fact, the mirror is made of white steel. There was one big mirror broken by the king of the monkeys. Because I also felt uncomfortable when I saw one monkey have a flaw in its body, so I use the mirrors which can’t be broken.
