After visiting
the marketing process of Oncidium, we walked
forward. Beside Dongshan Road was an antique
but vivid "Guang Xi Suspension Bridge." The
western Dakeng's land, from Toukeng to Koupu,
(the present Dakeng Circle) during the
Japanese occupation was still a barren. The
people worked in the mountain had to carry
the crops out and the children had to cross
the Dakeng River to school step by step. One
time two students of Dakeng Elementary
School, who lived in the western mountain,
were died by the flowing river on their way
to school. Later after the local people's
struggle, the bridge was constructed. The
presenter said that Guang Xi Suspension
Bridge, Fengjia Bridge, Cingshui Bridge and
Guangcheng Bridge were all designed,
supervised, and built by Yuwen Li in 1960.
His merit was really awarded. But only Guang
Xi Suspension Bridge exists and the other
three bridges were all disassembled. Its
plumb-line was a little destroyed as the
time goes by. After the reconstruction in
1999, it is still new and bright. Guang Xi
Suspension Bridge is the only bridge in
Dakeng, which is really award-winning in the
western mountain and the most close
suspension bridge in Taichung City.
