After visiting the Buddhist temples, we
entered “ Taichung City’s back garden” to visit the most representative
flower in Dakeng—Orchid. Originally we thought we would go the orchild’s
farm, but we were surprised to go the a spacious building after getting
off the bus. While we were wondering, we saw a big signboard said “
Taichung City Flower Store Market No.3.” The orchid after harvesting
should be packed by classifying here so that they can export to Japan and
get a large income for the country.

We arrived at Flower Store Market.
|
We took a picture readily after getting off.
|
Wow! There are so many consulting organizations for the marketing team.
|
We took a picture of the outlook of the marketing team.
|
A cold breeze with a strange flavor blew on
our faces. We saw several groups of people doing different things. At
first we didn’t know what they were busy, so we asked,” How come there
were many bundles of flowers on the shelves? There were three or four
color strips piled on the rectangular tables. Some flowers were bundled.
Each flower was placed in a clear can. After Leader Luo’s introduction,
we understood that the orchid after harvesting should be classified,
maintain moisture, be packed and export from here.

Leader Luo showed us a big room. It was a
huge cold storage, so we felt cold while getting into it. The presenter
told us it is the place to place the orchid. As it takes seven or ten
days for the ship time, the orchid can be kept fresh after freezing
according to Leader Luo’s introduction. Next, everyone was interested in
the criterion of classifying the orchid on the big rectangular table.
There was a red, green and yellow lines to measure the height of the
orchid. The way to classify the orchid was illustrated below.

We had to pay much attention to the thickness. No wonder it is the honor of Taiwan.

Flowers tied up in bundles of ten with
different color tapes. They have to be dried in the air after spraying
the pesticide. After that, the flowers should be covered with the plastic.
Twenty to fifty bundles of the flowers would be packed up a box or two to
ten bundles would be packed a small bag and placed in the box. After
packing, the flowers would be stored in the ice storage for loading.

After
the 921 earthquake, Taichung’s Dakeng area was rebuilt again. The farmers
planted it attentively. There are four million stems of orchids in
Dakeng, most of which will be exported to Japan! Orchid is actually a
money-spinner for flower growers! Dakeng is located in the remote
district. The temperature is remarkably between day and night. This
unique climate would help the growth of the flowers. There are about
seventy people planting orchids. They also cooperate with Jhutian of
Pingdong and Houli of Taichung County. Farmers should compete with the
sun, so they needed to harvest at five. At six, farmers should take the
flowers to the store market. To keep the flower fresh, farmers need to
compete with the time. Because the production is getting more and more,
the flower marketing team has started working. After completing the
market, people are welcome to visit the educational garden to let people
join these flowers.
Taichung City Flower Marketing market No.3
was established on January 8th, 2007, Leader Luo especially invited us to take
part in merriment. We were very excited about the open banquet at noon.
On that day we took a bus to appreciate Leader Luo’s help and awarded him
the Certificate of Appreciation. We really appreciated him to explain the
ecology of the orchid for us. It was very beautiful that there were many
kinds of orchids with much joy. Even though we didn’t stay here to eat
lunch, we were still happy.
