Da Syong Temple

We just visited Jheng Jyue Buddhist Temple. We were all short of breath after hiking half an hour. Finally we arrived at our destination--Tian Shui Temple. When we looked up, the first sight in the eye was " Da Syong Temple". The presenter asked, " Did you find the tablet of Jheng Jyue Buddhist Temple was Yuan Tong Temple?" Originally it was because the temple's name would be consist with the god's name. The god of Jheng Jyue Temple is Guanyin-Buddha, so the temple is called "Yuan Tong Temple ." If the god is Buddha, the temple is called "Da Syong Temple." If the god is Amitabha Buddha, the temple is called "Liu Li Temple." Different gods have different appellations. This is the Buddhist doctrine. I finally understand it until now.

Buddhist Tsung Lin (Tsung Lin means Jungle in English) and Tian Shui Temple

Tian Shui Temple was not built by funds of Buddhist believers'. The owner of Tian Shui Shop, Mr. Songtin Sie, paid much money and effort for it. He bought the land on Dongshan Road of Beitun District in Taichung four times for four years and constructed four pieces of Pure Land in the temple for ten years. The name of the temple was originated from one verse of Li Bai's poem " Bringing in the wine" in Tong dynasty--"See how the yellow River's waters move out of heaven. Entering the ocean, never to return." The purpose of building Tian Shui Temple was to bless people to appreciate the purification from experience earlier and expect people to spend their time  coming to the mountain so that they can return to the nature toward the Buddhist Paradise step by step.

Bu Er Men

Did you see the sight of my back? I was walking through Bu Er Men. The presenter said, “After you going into Bu Er Men, you can’t walk back the same road.” Although I didn’t understand, everyone felt it’s funny and discussed about it. After searching the information from the internet, we found Bu Er Men means the one! It means the powers of Buddha are unlimited, but the goal has only one. Simply it refers that all things on earth are all the same. When Prince Si Da Duo was born, his finger pointed to the sky and said, “ I am the King of the world.” But the King didn’t mean Prince Si Da Duo himself, but Tathagatagarbha, a virtual Buddha-homunculus and a fully wisdom-endowed Buddha seated majestically in the lotus posture within the body of each being. Bu Er Men refers Tathagatagarbha has the virtual power of Buddha.

We discussed about Bu Er Men

Mu Gu Chen Jhong “ translated literally evening drum and morning bell ”

When we went into the temple and walked round a corner, we saw the indispensable drum and clock for a temple.  They recalled an ancient poem ( Zhang Ji’s poem in Tong dynasty) – “ While I watch the moon go down, a crow caws through the forest; Under the shadows of maple-trees a fisherman movers with his torch; And I hear, from beyond Suzhou, from the temple on Cold Mountain; Ringing for me, hear in my boat, the midnight bell.” The bell of the temple was extending far so that the ancients left masterpieces about bell. Although the present drums and clocks in the temple are all electronic, they are still solemn. I was curious and asked my teacher, “Does Mu Gu Chen Jhong mean a monk knock the bell in the morning and play the drum in the evening?” She answered, “The explanation of the words are just like what you said, but we still need to check again later.”

After looking up the information, we found that the clock has the functions of assembling and telling the time in the Buddhist place according to the Buddhist allusion. Mu Gu Chen Jhong does not simply mean a monk knock the bell in the morning and play the drum in the evening. It means at the outset of the morning, a monk should knock the bell and then play the drum; before going to the bed, a monk should play the drum and then knock the bell. Before knocking the bell, the monk should make a wish first and then recite "Kou Jhong Jie" three times--"Yuan Cih Jhong Sheng Chao Fa Jie, Tie Wei You An Jie Wun; Wun Chen Cing Jing Jheng Yuan Tong, Yi Cie jhong Sheng Cheng Jheng Jyue," which is phonetic translation. The monk will knock the bell 108 times, which symbolizes the numerous worry and mannerisms. Stable bell extends far and merge the Buddhist wish. It strikes those who immerse in fame and benefits and evoke their heart of purification. The doctrine is so profound! I really learnt a lot from it.

  Thai Style

Tian Shui Temple let people feel tranquil, comfortable and has gorgeous flowers with Thai style. Whether TianShui Temple with a micro view or the whole jungles with a macro view, all of them make people refreshed. Take a look carefully. The stone lions are replaced by the elephants, which are admired by Thais. The buildings are decorated with Thai style. Mr.Songting Sie planted palm trees like Thai to enhance the leisure feeling.

General Li-ren Sun’s tomb

Walk along the road signs of Tian Shui Temple and go straight about 1 kilometer, there is a steep on the right side. You can see a broad flat-top building. That is General Li-ren Sun’s tomb. It is not apparent and not luxurious. There is only a coffin placed there without any thing to cover up. Its back is a little protruding hill. Its front is a piece of blank land without decorating. The coffin is just placed in the wilderness. People would not see it without careful attention.

General Li-ren Sun was born in Lujiang of An Hui Province in 1990, who was a good general and warrior. He is know for “ East Rommel” or “a triumphant general.” He was also awarded all kinds of metals and used to be a commander of the 38 division of Armed Forces, the commander-in-chief of the army and the commander-in-chief of Taiwan Defense. Unfortunately, he was forced to resign for his staff's matter of involving in the bandits. Under the direction of Jian Jhong Jheng and Jiang Jing Guo, Li-ren Sun was placed in Siangshang road in confinement. It was lucky that his adopted son and family strove for his freedom to finish his 33 years in confinement in  1988. Because of pneumonia, General Li-ren Sun finally died of septicemia.
