 Did you see the green roof in the pink circle?

While we were walking to the The Sun Hot Spring & Resort, Leader Gu told us, “As long as you look up, you will see my house.” Therefore, we all thought it was a piece of cake. Surprisingly, because the roof was small, we still had to walk for a long time. We found we were cheating. After thirty minutes, we arrived at his house. We all took a deep breath and said hurray. Finally we could pick tangerines! The tangerine by hard working was the most delicious.

951130-12 The most popular plant during the SARS period-- Banlangen(Clerodendrum cyrtophyllum Turcz)

SARS stands for severe acute respiratory syndrome. It happened in May, 2004. Many people in Taiwan suffered from SARS at that time. And the death rate was increasing. Many people since wore mask and ate the so-called magic Chinese medicine—Banlangen to prevent SARS. It was once too expensive to buy. But according to the traditional theory, Banlangen was not mainly the medicine to treat SARS, but it could enhnace

They are coffee beans.

Leader Gu asked to guess what he was pointing to.Yi Chieh Huang answered, “Are they cranberries?” Leader Gu said it tasted bitter. While everyone was confused with it. He told us that was a coffee bean. We were all surprised that we could see coffee beans in the Leader Gu’s mother’s garden rather than in the high mountains as the advertisement, Mr.Brown, said.

951130-14 A praying mantis hid in the garden.

While we were walking to the intersection, we saw a bush with blooming beautiful flowers. How beautiful the flowers. We enjoy seeing the flowers. Suddenly Teacher Lee found a praying mantis hide in the flower. We were wondering it was eating the flowering or taking a rest, but it was waken by our noise. It looked at us. Suddenly I thought of a phrase—“The mantis stalks the cicade, unaware of the oriole behind.” We were just like the orioles, but we didn’t catch it. It was interesting.

We wanted to pick Maogu (citrus)!

After seeing the Ponkan(citrus) full of the valleys, in the Leader Gu’s fruit garden, we saw the flat Maogu (citrus). It was special as it was oblate. It was like a flat ball pressed by the children. Our teacher said it was very delicious. Its peel was thin but full of flesh, juicy and sweet. After Leader Gu’s introduction, we knew that not only the big tangerine was the most delicious, so we could not judge the fruit by its appearance.

Wow! The glistening yellow tangerines in the mountain were waitng for us to pick. We were all excited about that. After listening Leader Gu’s introduction, we started to pick the tangerine carefully. We peeled the tangerine slowly and took a big bite. “ Wow, it’s so sweet!” We said it together. We found the tangerine picked by myself was the most delicous. I really recommended everyone is welcome to enjoy the fruit picked by himself. I promised you could feel that joyful feeling.

We always recorded the interviews, so my teacher asked me to organize the recordings. As we recorded the interviews by sections, so my teacher asked me to make a file and a name for the recordings so that we could find the recording by its name afterwards. It would help us do things more efficiently. The most important was that I learnt to organize the data. I felt sucessful!

One of unit names in our web page was “Interview Records.” At first, we were discussing the syntactical function of “record.” After we asked a Chinese master, Teacher Wang. He explained us  that “record” could be noun or verb but different word in Chinese. It depends on the situation. Finally we chose the verbal record.

Do you know who we are?

Our teacher asked us to bring two photos for one unit of our homepage—Homepage team. We decided to bring one photo at the present age and one at younger age. We found that everyone’s photo was cute and funny. Someone brought the photo at two years old, someone’s photo was the age of the graduation in the kindergarten and even some brought the baby picture. It was very interesting.

The memory disk was used to save the file. It was mobile. Today we learnt to use the memory disk, but the teacher said only Win98 had to download the drive program. As long as the computer has the USB, then the memory disk can be used.

Today we looked for some information about the hot springs in Dakeng. I found that Kylin-Peak Hot Spring was in Dakeng. How stupid I was. Therefore, I took my former photos and some advertisements for the reference and found lots of information about the hot spring. We found the hot spring was shown up after the 921 earthquake. It was a special that I have ever had.

In order to finish my web page, I had to look for more information about the kinds of Taiwanese monkeys. At first, I surfed the net, but I found it was not enough. After Aunt Guo’s careful introduction to Dakeng Cultural Association, we attending Leader Luo’s feast for the moving of Leader Luo’s flower marketing team. While we were looking at the beautiful orchid. Suddenly Teacher Cheng shouted, “ what flower is it? Is it a chrysanthemum?” We turned to look it and we found a pink flower like a chrysanthemum. An aunt standing beside said with a smile, “ That is the rose from Mainland China.” I was confused why it looked like a chrysanthemum. The aunt explained that there were many kinds of roses, so we had a better understanding of rose.

The picture was taking during the winter vacation.

Today our teacher told us we had to go downstairs and take a picture together before the break. We felt confused as we did it before. Our teacher told us we worked so hard during the winter vacation, so we could take a different picture for our team before completing the research project. We took a group picture first, then the individual one. As we wore casual clothes, we felt relaxed to take pictures. Our teacher kept saying we took a wonderful picture.

Today my teacher assigned me a job—to insert an icon on our web page. I was the 5th grader, so I haven’t learnt how to use Namo. Therefore, my teacher taught me how to insert the icon. In fact, it was easy to do it. As long as you clicked the picture, the picture would show up. My teacher also taught me to arrange the picture in the middle and fit the words in the center. It was great that I learned more.

Today there was a special person coming to the computer lab. That was our schoolmate, Jhihwei Chen. He was already the second grade of senior high. Our teacher said he used to attend the second cyberfair. No wonder he knew how hard we worked. As for his assistance, we kept up work much faster. He contributed himself a lot. Today we were busy in checking our articles each other for the final check as the deadline was on February 27th. But the school started on February 26th, so we had to complete them this week. My goodness, I had to draw the picture for our homepage. After struggling for a while, I started to draw a draft first—pointed out the most impressive trips such as Dong Dong Taro Balls, Dakeng bamboo shoots, Tianran Garden ( a dye shop), hiking trails, cute macaques, orchids and so one. I had to make a list for the beauty of Dakeng. My teacher said, “ Wei Ling, you

only need to point out the more peculiar characteristics of Dakeng. The others would be explored by visitors themselves.”

I agreed with my teacher. If I introduced everything in detail, then there was no interesting thing in Dakeng anymore.

Bravo! Finally we finished our progress reports. In the beginning we were engaged in doing this research project, each of us had the work we were in charge of. Wow! We had finished more than on hundred articles! It included our joys and sorrows. This was like our growing process! It’s just like a diary to record our feelings. The contest of the cyberfair was almost over. I was very glad to know many friends through this activity. Thank teachers and Dakeng locals for their help. I was going to upload my article. YA!

Today our teacher decided to upload our web pages to the cyberfair in advance, so we upload one part for testing. The experienced teacher told us this time might be the rush hour—many schools might upload their web pages as well. I was confused why the Internet was jammed like the traffic congestion.

Our teachers taught us and explained us the uploading data on the net was like the cars on the highway. We had to wait! The Internet was like the traffic! It’s very interesting! I learned one more! Thank goodness the speed of the loading was good, so we could upload one section by section!

Finally we finish the last progress report. Everyone was careful to do the final check. The International contest was going to start! Let’s keep up the good work!
