950930-1 Baozhilin¡¦s
creative activity.
|
Our work for Baozhilin's creative activity.
|
Today, from 9:30 to 12:00 on Saturday of
September 30th in 2006, was a sunny day. Our team attended
¡§Baozhilin¡¦s creative activity.¡¨ Baozhilin, one of sections in Department of
Environmental Protection, is a place to recycle residents¡¦ big sizes of
furniture, reuse them after slightly repair to increase benefits of recycling
and then to decrease the volumes of trash for the final purpose.
|
Baozhilin provides us paper
boxes, newspapers and paints for recycling acitivity. Next, we started to work!
At first, we needed to find the suitable sizes of paper boxes to make the framework
of the castle and divide the work for the decoration. Some people made trees,
some people made arched doors and windows, and some people drew characters,
ships, airplanes and so on. Everyone developed his or her creative ideas. It
was fun. Well, it was really hot though. It was funny that everyone was
red-faced.

Oops! I got the paint.
|
The
game began. I started painting on the cardboard with the brush, which was
provided from Baozhilin. Ooops! The paint fell down on my shoe. The paint is
different from the watercolor, which is not easy to wash off. Our teacher told
me that we had to brush it with water as soon as I arrived home, but I had to
go to cram school after the activity. I didn¡¦t have time to wash my shoe at
home. What a trouble it was. After the activity, I found everyone¡¦s clothes
were dirty. It looked as if laundry shops could make more money from us.

We painted happily.

the army, navy and air force.
|
I was coloring the airplane.
|
Today
I was going to attend Baozhilin¡¦s creative activity about the environmental
protection. On the early morning, I came to the scene of the activity. Our
teacher assigned me to draw transportations. After I thought it over, I decided
to draw the representatives of the army, navy and air force. I drew a tank for
the army, a navel vessel for the navy, and a combat aircraft for the air force.
Since I used to draw airplanes, I drew them without extra trouble but it seemed
like a general passenger airplane. As for the navy vessel, I completed one more
layer for the vessel, a barrel and a flag. As for the tank, because I have
never seen it, it was a little
|
hard for me. Later I asked my team members and
they provided me some opinions. Finally I completed it by the imagination. In
the meanwhile, I finished my drawings of the army, navy and air force.

I
made a creative big tree by myself.
|
The
game began. Our teacher asked me to make a big tree. After brainstorming, I
found I could make a tree by useless paper boxes on the ground. I picked up the
most soft paper box. I folded it, taped it on the box at the bottom to fasten
it. Again, I picked some newspapers on the ground. I rolled up them as the
sticks in the tree. Ha! Ha! I found I was so smart. The most final funny step
was coloring. I mixed a big bowl of brown color and it was all stained with my
hands unexpectedly. It was fun. I asked for everyone¡¦s help to make leaves and
petals with the thinner paper. We pasted them on the tree one by one. Finally I
made a three-dimensional tree. It was fabulous! Everyone kept praising me. I
was very proud of it!

No pains, no gains.
|
Time was almost up! Hurry up!
|
Ah! I was already thirty past eleven! It was
extremely urgent for us to hand in our work. ¡§Hurry up! Hurry up!¡¨ I yelled out
crazily. When I saw others hand in their work one after another, I got more
nervous because our modeled tree was still lack of leaves and petals and the
scissor was too blunt to cut the paper at the moment. Everyone still had fun
though.
|
I exhaled a bit as we caught the time at the last moment! We visited
other teams¡¦ work while we were waiting for the result from the jury. I still
though we did the best. We had a fancy palace and an extremely creative modeled
tree. Bravo! No pains, no gains. I
believed as long as we tried our best to make it, we must have good grade!
by Ya Chu, Hu
|
|
950930-6 Baozhilin¡¦s
work-viewed others¡¦ and appreciate ours.
|
My goodness! It was time for the jury to
evaluate the work. How nervous we were! The jury took turns to see our work;
meanwhile, we went to view others¡¦ work without being noticed. After viewing, I
found that the castles made by each team were unique but made by others were
incomplete. After careful observation, I found that ants or giraffes, made of
wood, were easier to make. We spent a lot of time and efforts on our work. This
team effort made us feel confidet.
After the competition,
everyone was nervous about the results! When I got to school on Monday, I
couldn¡¦t wait to check the internet for the results. I found that our team got
the second place and I told everyone. We were all very happy and we just kept
yelling. I felt that no task was impossible if you tried your best.

950930-7 The
modeled framework of the moving castle.
|
I felt relieved! We were finally finished!
The task was completed. Our castle was resplendent with an elegant background,
cute characters and many elaborate
windows, doors, little girls as well as flowers and trees, made of
plates. All pictures were beautifully drawn and alive.
I felt that the biggest
fault was at the end. We didn¡¦t have enough time to adequately complete the
roof. It looked as if it were hurried. If we could make the roof more
perfectly, we could have got number one.

felt touched because of their enthusiasm about environmental protection.
Plastic bags and plastic bottles appeared along the walking trail the most.
These were the outcome of hikers¡¦ trash. They were out of social ethics. On my

Come on! Let's buy delicious bamboo shoots.

Along the walking trails, we could see ¡§native chickens¡¨ walking around.
It was very bustling as the street vendors sold bamboo shoots and wild
vegetables and there were karaoke bars, native chicken store, temples and
tombs. There were also many beautiful bamboo groves along the way. It could be
associated with one of Dongpo Su¡¦s

The origin of Earthquake Park.
|
While we were cleaning the hill, I saw a big wooden ladder lying
on a leaning big banyan. I walked up the ladder excitedly. The first sight
was that of the green grass of the park.
But next to it was a frigtening sight¡Xhalf of a school was collapsed. I was
very curious, so I read the explanantion carefully. Oh! Originally the school
was ¡§Jungong Elementary School.! It was built on

the Chelongpu¡¦s fault zone, so
when the earthquake of September 21st started showing its effect,
the playground of the school was torn apart and the doors of the classrooms
were twisted. In order to remember the earthquake of September 21st , the government especially built up an Earthquake
Park next to Jungong Elementary School. Seeing this school¡¦s miserable
condition, from my point of view, even though we cannot predict when
earthquakes occurr, we still need to keep land remediation and conservation in
mind and stop building houses on an active fault zones. This way we might
decrease the loss in lives when earthquakes happened

The heart of the environmental protection is in bloom.
|
Let's pick the trash together!
|
I held a
hope in my mind. The nearer the car approached the destination, the No.9
Walking Trail, the happier I was. ¡§Come on! Let¡¦s get there faster!¡¨ I heard
another say. After we arrived at the destination, I was excited to take the
towel, mineral water¡Xall the necessary equipment for ¡§picking up trash.¡¨ To
prevent flies from stinging, I sprayed the pest prevention liquid on my body.
Then, suddenly I saw a familiar person. It was originally the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, Taichung City,
|
Wenzhong Qi! In order to promote the trash
picking activity, the Commissioner also attended the trash picking activity. On
the way to the trash picking, I saw fresh green bamboo forests and fruitful
citruses. But I felt very upset
when I saw the trash piling up one after the other. I thought it sorrowful that
our ecological environment was being destroyed. Therefore, it is the urgent
time for the modern people to solve the problems in order to protect this good
ecological environment and learn to get along with nature well. It was because
of the research project that I had the chance to attend this trash picking
activity. I was so surprised as I saw a lot of cans and trash. I wondered why
everyone still has no sense about environmental protection even though our
government has already promoted
environmental protection. To prevent our beautiful Taiwan from being
buried, I have to let those people who throw trash away casually understand
that it is terrible to throw trash away casually.

Our teacher told us we didn¡¦t need to make the

the next day. Finally we had time to take a rest, but it was extremely boring
as I am not used to taking naps at noon. Thank goodness we could return to the

After studying for a week,
Chinese, math, Social Studies and Nature Science kept wandering in my brain
every moment of every day. I even dreamed about it: one and one is two! The big
day, October 4th,2006, finally came, but soon this day turned into a
horrible day that dissapeared into the earth. During these break days, we had
saved much energy and are prepared well to start off well. Striving towards
making the ideal web page!

next day. It was a special big vacation for five days! It made people excited
as everyone thought of it. My mom had already planned to take me to a
restaurant in Dakeng and embrace the nature there. I didn¡¦t play computer games
at home all day, so I opened myself to the nature. But my smart mother didn¡¦t
let me have an easy day. She had arranged some supplementary materials to
enhance my knowledge and brainpower. I appreciated my mom for helping me to

951011-1 Study Dakeng¡¦s geography.
|
We had started making
our shool¡¦s cyber fair this year. As soon as we confirmed our research topic,
Dakeng, we started to arrange several activities. As being a team teacher, I
had to not only kept arranging the students to join activities but followed the
students¡¦ steps and got involved in understanding the researh. While we were
searching for information, the study center held a learning program about
Dakeng¡¦s geography. As the time of the learning program matched our research
time, Teacher Tsai hoped we could get more information, so she signed us up for
the program as soon as possible.

|
951011-2 A fantastic speech¡Xunderstand Dakeng by
its geographic outlook.
|
Professor Bingkun
Liang of Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology, who focusd on the
topic of ¡§The geographic outlook of Taichung City¡¦s Dakeng area,¡¨ introduced
Dakeng¡¦s natural and basic outlook of the landform at a teachers¡¦ study center
today.
As for Dakeng¡¦s
geographic position, it was defined according to different views. For example,
¡§ the Map of Dakeng,¡¨ ¡§the History of Dakeng,¡¨ and ¡§the Local of Dakeng.¡¨
Nowadays, most people define Dakeng¡¦s boundaries by its natural position. Its
eastern boundary is the line from Toukeshan to Erkeshan, the northern boundary
is the Hsinshe River terraces. The
southern boundary is the Buzhikeng Stream and the western boundary is from
Xipinshan to Dashanmu to Guanyinshan¡¦s crest line. The so-called Keng means the
intermittent stream and its valley.
Dakeng Scenic Area impressed
the people in Dakeng. This was why we decided on it as the main topic for the research. However, after joining the
geographic study of Dakeng, we deeply felt that when we want to introduce a
place to others, we not only needed to impress them with this discovering its
uniqueness but also we had to introduce Dakeng by refering to ¡§the Map of
Dakeng,¡¨ ¡§the History of Dakeng,¡¨ and ¡§the Local of Dakeng.¡¨
by Hui-Chen, Tsai
|
951011-3 What is intermittent stream?
|
The word ¡§Keng¡¨ in
Dakeng refers to the landform of the intermittent stream and its valley. But
what is the intermittent stream? The rivers around the world can be divided
into ¡§internal rivers¡¨ and ¡§external rivers,¡¨ judged by if the river flows out
to the sea. The rivers can be alternatively judged by its length of the
desiccation, the direction of the flow
and weather the river flows out to the sea or not. Take the length of the
desiccation for instance, rivers can be divided into ¡§perennial rivers, the
intermittent rivers, and arroyos.¡¨ As for the obvious climate area with wet and
dry season, in the dry season will be little rain and the evapotranspiration
will increase, so the river disappears and the riverbed is uncovered. On the
other hand, in the rainy season the river is always plentiful and rushing. This
situation is the so-called ¡§intermittent stream.¡¨ All the streams originated from the high mountains in Taiwan
belongs to this type. Wow! I learnt one more thing!

951013 Another feeling¡Xgoing to school on
Saturday.
|
We just finished a series of happy
holidays, but we had to make up the classes on Saturday. It was so troublesome.
I unexpectedly had a curious feeling on my way to school. I pondered whether
there would be any difference in today. Therefore, I started off my discovery.
The first interesting thing was the traffic was just like before, clogged with bumper-to-bumper traffic. As
usual, everyone went to school. I drew a conclusion that if we didn¡¦t pay much
attention to what day it was, then nobody might figure out today was a holiday! The feeling was so special that I
could meet my classmates, especially on a Saturday!

951016 My creative drawing.

As soon as the teacher
asked us who would like to attend this creative drawing activity, I joined
excitedly. I started to contemplate the drawing of the picture. At the
beginning, I wondered why this picture always pointed in the direction of the
UFO ¡¨unidentified flying object.¡¨ Later I found that this monotonous graphics
could turn into so many cute pictures. Someone drew tomatoes, another drew hats
and another drew frogs. Thinking of frogs,

This was our creative drawing.

I suddenly had an idea. I would like
to draw a crocodile. After a few weeks, I finally completed my work. I found

grade.

Wow! I was so

torturous a sixth grader¡¦s life is! But the only holiday finally came. That was

951018 Went on an excursion.
|
I got up at 6:30 this morning. Today we had
our annual excursion! Thank goodness that I wasn¡¦t late today. When I arrived
at the playground, the leader still hadn¡¦t arrived. Originally I had to be the vice group leader as well as the group
leader as well. It was very tiring! Everyone was in a hurry to get on the bus
as we couldn¡¦t wait to get to ¡§Janfusun
Fancyworld.¡¨
¡§We¡¦re here. We¡¦re here.¡¨ Everyone yelled.
We rushed to get off the bus to enter Janfusun Fancyworld. We only had two to
three hours to stay there. My members and I quickly took the ¡§hill train¡¨ to
the square. We decided to go on the ¡§Whirlwind UFO.¡¨ While riding on the
Whirlwind UFO, the wind was very strong. I almost flew away. The second
amusement facility we went on was the ¡§Deathtrack.¡¨ For this, my members and I had to line up. We were all very
excited.
But I regretted I riding on the Deathtrack. I kept
opening my eyes,it was truly horrible. Then I closed my eyes. Thank goodness it
would be over soon, or I would have fainted! Time passed quickly. Today¡¦s
Fanfusun excursion was over. Hopefully the next excursion would be as fun as
today¡¦s.

951023 My skill of writing the progress report
was in an improving state.
|
Be honest. At
first I felt it was really troublesome to write the progress report. I had to
spend a lot of time organizing the work and my typing went very slow. It was
difficult! Unexpectedly, I was better at writing the progress report than I
thought. The typing got faster and faster as if I was writing in a diary. It
was easy.
At the beginning, I kept
asking the teacher about the topic. Therefore, I could understand what I was
going to write for the content Today, I suddenly found my skill was in an
improving state. I talked to myself that I can do it and keep going!

|
951024 Learned to make a web page.
|
I finally started to learn to make a web
page. Most of our team members are sixth graders, so they had already learned
to make a web page in the second semester when they were in the 5th
grade by Namo software. But I was only a 5th grader this year, I
haven¡¦t learned it yet. Hence, our teacher told us how to do. It wasn¡¦t as
difficult as I thought.
However, our teacher explained to us that we had to
write by using html. I just wrote one short sentence. As I transferred it into
the html model, I saw a long string of English words with a surprise. The
reason was that the software for making a web page could help us write the html
language directly. Before there was no software for making a web page, people
had to key in the complicated language. It was so troublesome! With the
development of the technology, the computer can help us do lots of things. It
is more and more convenient for us to use!

to me. When I asked him who went on the ninth trail with him, he replied by
giving the same person¡¦s name to me. How strange it was! How come he replied by
giving me the same answer? What happened to him?
Originally he would attend the composition contest.
Maybe he was too nervous so now he affected us in the making the web page. He
bothered me by telling me to spend four days writing our progress report of
¡§Going on the excursion.¡¨ He made me feel it was difficult to write the
progress report. I disliked it.

951026 Assigned everyone¡¦s work for ¡§Ecotourism¡¨

We would go ¡§Ecotourism¡¨ on October 28th.
Our teacher assigned everyone a task in advance. I was originally in charge of
recording but our teacher was afraid that my steps were too slow to follow the
guided staff. She reassigned Sihen Chen, a leader who runs fast, and Yijie
Huang, the only boy, to replace my work. It was such a pity! I thought I could
take pictures but my teacher said the teachers would do it. I had no work but
asking the guided staff questions. It was so boring! But our teacher told us
everyone was important. She reminded us to pay attention and to listen with our
mind so that we could ask good questions and write good progress reports.
Therefore, I was expected to go ¡§Ecotourism!¡¨

Wow! This tangerine was juicy.
|
The
mountains of Dakeng face the sun, so there are an abundance of sunshine and
rainfall there. The tangerines are big and juicy and tastes sweet. When it
comes to the harvesting season, many experienced people come to the fruit farms
to buy tangerines every year. Tangerines are aboundant in Dakeng from mid
November to the end of the year. It tastes sour, sweet and very cheerful. It is
also enriched with vitamins and cellulose. It is the best choice among the
fruits. Then it was also the time to pick

951028-2 Delicious bamboo shoots in
Dakeng .
|
Dakeng's bamboo shoots were delicious!
|
One of the main local
products is based on the bamboo shoots in Dakeng. Why is it so famous? Dakeng
locates is located below the sea level, so its soil and climate suits bamboo shoots planting. The local farmers
have started growing bamboo shoots during the Japanese occupation. The Taiwan
banana industry was increasingly in depression in the 1960s, so the local
farmers started to develop bamboo farms instead of banana farms. During the
|
1970s and 1980s, they came into the golden age. Some of the bamboo shoots were
canned and exported to Japan at that time! Some of the biggest plantations for
Dakeng¡¦s bamboo shoots were up to nine hundred hectares. The production was
also the best in the whole nation. Due to good management and cultivation skills and organic fertilizers,
the bamboo shoots are crispy and delicious. Because of the excellent quality,
some bamboo shoots are transported to Taipei, which has a higher consumption
level. Everyone in the market has known about it for a long time. Everyone is
welcome to have a taste of the local bamboo shoots in Dakeng.

951028-5 Young Tong Hall and Green Roof.
|
The first stop of the ecotourism was to visit ¡§Jhengjyue Temple.¡¨ The first impression by me was its green tiles on the
roof. While walking toward the gate, you may find that
the well trimmed grass with green and exuberant is exactly matched with the the
black green eaves of the temple. Jheng Jyue Buddhist Temple has been ascribed
to Guanyin Gate, so Da SyongTemple is also named Yuan Tong Temple, which

enshrines Guanshiyinpusa in Chinese or Aualokitesvara Bodhisattva in English.
Next, we would go to ¡§ Tian Shui Temple ,¡¨ which enshrines Buddha, so it is
called "Da Syong Temple." The founder of this temple was a Chuanzong
Bucchist monk, who was taught by the Guangqing Buddhist monk.

951028-6 Yunban ¡§the wooden percussion instrument¡¨ and
Gujing ¡§a well.¡¨
|
This is Yuban. This is Gujing.
|
We came to Cheng Chiao
Buddhist Temple. We found two special things while we were going around the
restaurant. They were Gujings. Gujing! I didn¡¦t type it wrong. It is an ancient
well with water which was clear and clean for us to drink. Only a few of them
exist in the world. Now we understand Gujing better. But what is Yunban? A
person will play the Yuban ¡§the wooden percussion instrument¡¨ to assemble
everyone for eating when the meal is ready. Don¡¦t play it any other time, or
people will suddenly turn suddenly because it is only used for when a meal is
ready.

951028-7 Eight Trigrams Furnace.
|
I believed that everyone must be curious at what the
Eight Trigrams Furnaces are. As implied by the name, it means eight furnaces
forming the shape of eight trigrams and every second one has a concave hole for
the cook to stand on. One cook is responsble for two furnaces. The inventor of the Eight Trigrams Furnace is an
ancestral monk.
|
Let's count it! Are there eight furnaces?
|
In addition, the Eight Trigrams Furnace were used after the
earthquake of September 21st. Many people in the mountains were
trapped at that time, so everyone took turns to cook for those people without
resting for several nights. The dining room was very small. Do you know how
they distributed the food among thousands of people? The answer is that they
put the food in the kitchen closet. It was very special. It had two sides. The
one is for putting food in and the other one is for people taking food out. The
kitchen closet was made for the eight trigrams.
I really admired that the
intelligent ancestral monk. I also hoped that I can invent very helpful objects
for the society and let everyone live more conveniently.

951028-8 Jiu Bu Xiang ¡§nine unliknesses.¡¨
|
In the Cheng Chiao
Buddhist Temple, I found a very special object. It was Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva¡¦s
guard, Di Ting. It is said that it can tell a person¡¦s good and evil by its
sense of hearing. What an interesting thing! It looked odd. It had deer horns,
camel¡¦s head, crab¡¦s eye, horse¡¦s mouth, cows ear but also sheep¡¦s moustache,
lion¡¦s hair, carp¡¦s scales, snake¡¦s body, eagle¡¦s claw and tiger¡¦s palm. It
looked like a dragon in one of the legends imagined by our ancestors. The
dragon was an animal in many legends but there was no final conclusion for its
shape. Therefore, there is a saying, ¡§ Nine likenesses, nine unlikenesses.¡¨
This is the origin of Jiu Bu Xiang¡¦s ¡§nine unlikenesses.¡¨ After hearing the
explanation, I finally understood the ¡§life experiences¡¨ of Jiu Bu Xiang.
Wow! Was this a holiday resort hotel? How come I
had this illusion? I could have been in Thailand for all I knew. It was
relaxing. But Of course not, it was Tian Shui Temple. Some Thai styles featured
in its building structure. Whether it was Bu Er Men (an entrance to the
temple), Fojao Conglin¡]a Buddhist monastery¡^or the temple itself, all of them were all full of strong foreign
influences. It has a most peculiar feature. Take a look carefully. There had
been a stone lion before, but now there was a magnificent Thai elephant. Here
was a round and slippery Thai styles¡¦ arch. Tian Shui Temple was just like a
small Thailand. However, this monastery was the paradise of the black flies!
Originally, I was full of blood. After going home, I might stop by the hospital
for some blood transfusion. What an evil black fly!
