The new building of Yu Jen Elementary School began construction on July 7th, 1998, and completed on June 3rd, 2000.
Before the new building started to prepare for construction, Sister Shih visited a lot of famous metropolitan architecture in Europe and America. After she came back, she kept searching for the long-lasting combination of Oriental architecture and Western architecture. Then Sister Shih started to plan elaborately and make much effort on design. Finally, she and architects deliberated together about the design. After making effort for several years, the new building which is a classic architecture established according to the blueprint of the architecture.
The design concept of the new building originated from religious moods, history, and teaching goal of Yu Jen—moral, intellectual, physical, social, aesthetic and sacred education—to develop architecture space with the linear, planar, and frame elements.
Through considering the combination of space and form, they finally tried to merge the concept of “a building growing like a tree” into the architecture. According to the concept of vitality and Nature, we hope that the buildings can create a space showing an atmosphere in accordance with natural and represent a tree-like non-finite and finalize school space. The building is regarded as a root of Yu Jen—it represents that our school keeps developing the vitality of the school. The growing big tree—Yu Jen Catholic Elementary School will combine the space design with much potential activity according to its characteristics to represent its continuity of vitality.
Due to the transmission of Internet, the new building of Yu Jen is praised not only by people who work for Catholic service but also by visitors who came from other countries—namely, they praise that our building is a magnificent and eternal architecture. The new building adopts arc design—namely, Principal Shih not only considered students’ safety but also wanted to represent the new teaching concept of Yu Jen in the future. The building combines international vision and international humanity and art. By means of special form design, architects blended the characteristics of Oriental and Western architecture into the campus design. Following sections are the introduction of twelve scenes of Yu Jen Elementary School.

The First Scene Jesus
Mural(The Essence of Yu Jen Mural)
The scene is located beside the green parkway on the SingJin Road along the wall of True Building of Yu Jen Elementary School. With the flourishing green parkway, the scene looks more classic and antique. Jesus Mural represents that Jesus told his disciples, “Let children come to me, do not stop them.” Jesus’ love and forgiveness become one of the important values of managing Yu Jen Elementary School. Our principal leads faculty and teachers and let the important value become education goal of Yu Jen to create great learning environment and accept every child who attend our school by educating, inspiring, and guiding him/her.

Our goal is to lead all children to their future. This mural was designed by Mexican artist Franciscus a Gnua who designed it and drew it. This is made of mosaic and the topic is “Let Children Come to Me” which is one of goal of our school and the most sacred mission pursued by our teachers.
The Second Scene The Courtly Compass

After entering the red gate of the school, walking 15 meters, and turning right, you will find a palatial patio which always attracts visitors. After you go up the four circle stairs, you will step on a big compass. Except using as a teaching material of Nature Science, the compass is also a creative design which can leads students to have a broad thought. Yu Jen is a Catholic
school and our hearts are tied to the sacred place forever. When we step on the compass, we start to think that the compass located in European building shows its style and also points to the holy city in the sky and smiles with the holy infant.
The Third Scene The Cornerstone
It is located the north of the Compass of the patio and the south of Children’s
Chapel (Ching-Hsin Hall). Under the Cornerstone, there are purplish red cigar flowers which are telling the history of Yu Jen Elementary School and its new building. It established on March 25th, 2000 and the text on the stone describes the history of the school. In addition, the epitaph is full of gratefulness and the macro-teaching thought. “Yu Jen Elementary School Affiliated Kindergarten was founded by Fathers of Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) of Belgium in 1967 and its school affairs were dealt by

Sisters of CICM of Tien-Chung until now. In order to welcome the 21st century, our school is re-designed on the basis of humanity and international perspectives. Today the construction is completed thanks to God and everything goes right and with a little luck.”
The Fourth Scene Children's Chapel

After entering the school gate and going straight for 25 meters and going up the left side of the stairs, you can arrive at the church. Solemn and respectful church decorated with color-painted holy

infant, colored glass, and the doves of peace on the two sides is the church of children’s life and humanity education and also the church where children think and pray.
The Fifth Scene Jesus
Tree(The Pillar of Jesus Tree)
After stepping on the patio, you can see a big mosaic tree on your left side. It represents that the new building is like a tree which will keep growing up strongly. The tree is flourishing and its trunk painted on Jesus picture and the fruit of moral, intellectual, physical, social, aesthetic and sacred aspects which symbolizes children's creativity in diverse field and their successes. There are little trees and cloud-patterned decorations on the beams and pillars of each building. The green decoration on the pillar on the picture is “small tree,” and blue decoration is “cloud-patterned painting.” When the architect designed the new

building, his concept is based on “a tree-like building,” so in every place, we can see Sister's creativity and her spirit and goal of education. We also can see the architect’s cooperation sincerely.
The Sixth Scene Peace Hope Hall

Pass Jesus Tree and keep going to the stairs in front of Jesus Tree and go down the stairs, you can find multimedia auditorium, concert hall, and big screen appearing in front of you. There is a sentence on the entrance of Hope Hall “I am the road, truth, and life.” These words and the scared heart shaped fire of education show in front of everyone's eyes. Let
everyone who comes to here praise, “The scene is so special and the whole design and style emphasize that the school leads students to the respect for ethics and life. The school also teaches students to live with passion, learn happily, and keep a passion in their heart.”
The Seventh Scene The Sundial
Stand in the entrance of Peace Hope Hall , look up Jesus Tree, and watch the sunshine shining through the bell tower of True Building to the west. Every second and every minute the position of sunshine moves along the mosaic of Hope Hall. The Nature is so amazing and touches everyone. The Sundial design is to let students understand the meaning of “Time is gold” and remind students to pursue truth immediately, so that they can develop skills and ethics at the same time. When we look up to the ceiling of Peace Hope Hall and look through flourishing Jesus Tree, we can feel Yu Jen is through huge and broad sky.

The Eighth Scene Millennium Landmarks(Centurial Millennium Landmarks)

It is located on the sixth floor of Beauty Building. Four rings hanging highly and each color of each ring represents different meaning. The four pavilions represent spring, summer, fall, and winter, respectively and made of different colors of mosaic to represent four millenniums. It also symbolizes the universe keeps working and changing without stop. The
architect designed the new building of Yu Jen with smooth lines instead of traditional square design. Looking down the campus or looking up the campus can experience different scenes.
The Ninth Scene Observatory(Truth Godness Beauty Observatory)
If you walk around the arcade of True Building, Chih-Shan Building, and Beauty Building, you will feel amazed at the scenes you saw. If you look down the patio, the corridor of Children’s

On the top of the big Jesus Tree, there is a painting made of many colored stones—namely, it is a world map. The world map in the campus is to let students understand “Originate from Yu Jen, Take a broad view of the world.” When students play on the map, they will feel the feeling that the world is a big family. Moreover, the LOGO on Stuck Ivo Open Air Performance Stage on the forth floor is to represent that Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) of Belgium found our school in 1967, so the LOGO shows One Mind One spirit. The LOGO matches Stuck Ivo Open Air Plaza which is to remember Father
Stuck Ivo who wrote thousands of letters to Catholics in America and Europe in order to raise funds to build the school in 1966. Father Stuck Ivo also invited Sisters of CICM of Tien-Chung to deal with school affairs. In order to let students understand the meaning of “We can enjoy in the shade of the tree today because our ancients planted the tree before.” and “When you drink water, you should think about its origin.”
The Eleventh Scene Skywalk
& Fatima Church(Skywalk & Our Lady of Fatima Church)
Walk through the Skywalk between Chih-Shan Building and Beauty Building, and you will see Fatima Church opposite to our school. The colored holy hall is one of the famous landmarks in Taichung. The Church, PU runway of the playground, the shade of coconut palm, and green parkway make a beautiful and classic scene. If you walk on the skywalk, you will see all the scenes

of the school and also new building and European style Church. Especially in the morning and sunset, you will feel the past and Europe.

There is a secret place in the middle of Ching-Hsin Hall and Group Building. There are bamboo, grass, river, and Jesus Statue which faces the south of red gate in the garden. Sacred Heart of Jesus is our guard, and it is our bliss that we can grow up under his guard. It is like the lyrics in a holy song, “Please let my heart like your sacred heart, lead me to walk on your road, teach me to
love you by loving ours, and let me live in your love forever and ever.”
