My teacher, My father, My son
I
am a “teacher” in Yu Jen; a “father” of three children; and all of my “sons”
study in Yu Jen. Therefore, Yu Jen is my second family.
During
thirty years, I have seen the trace of Yu Jen’s changes, and what it did not
change is the principle of holistic education. As time goes by, those who was a
little children has become a person who can take responsibility. In my every
day of my life, relationship with students always accompanies me; in
twenty-four hours of every day, students of Yu Jen shine in every corner all
over the world.
In
the picture in my living room, looking at my three children wearing in uniforms
of Yu Jen in the picture is my favorite—white shirt, red bow tie, and gray
suit. In the childlike smile, the oldest son played urhu
in Chinese Orchestra and the other sons played instruments in Rhythmic Music
lead by Lin, Pi Chu. Those happy scenes are still clear in my mind. While I
asked my mother and father to look at the picture, they said, “It is quite
different from other school!” In their words, it shows the special atmosphere
in Yu Jen.
Since
Yu Jen started to be built in fathers’ farm, it has been forty years to expend
the school from only two classes of first grade and five classes of
kindergarten to around one thousand students in the school and from the old
building to a splendid school with enrich information technology. Looking back
into the forty years, students of Yu Jen is like what the school hymn describes
“Live and breathe together and rely on each other and love each other like your
own brothers.” and education of Yu Jen is like what the school emblem
symbolizes “it nurtures students with moral, intellectual, physical, social,
aesthetic and sacred education.”
In Kahlil
Gibran’s The Garden of the Prophet,
“If your hands were spacious and enduring enough, the seed might become a
forest, and the worm a flock of angles.” “Worms become a flock of angles” is
what I would like to see in Yu Jen, so during the thirty years, I always love
Yu Jen.
